Mother's Day Suprise!

This next cake was made  for a lady who wants to surprise her mum this Mother's Day  with some edible flowers!  She actually saw the cake that I made for my own mother-in-law Penelope and really liked it, and this is what I came up with.   I hope that all you  mummies out  there have a really enjoyable and relaxing day on Sunday x

Holidays are nearly here!

I've nearly reached the weekend and on Sunday John and I are flying off to Prague for 3 nights.  It's been a long time since we managed some time on our own so I'm really, really excited.
my fist picture for this week is of some 2nd birthday balloon cookie pops for a little boy celebrating his second birthday.  They are made with a dairy free spread which I assumed would just substitue into my usual recipe, dream on!  The problem is that because it is oil based the mix doesn't harden when left in the fridge making it incredibly difficult to work with and therefore they took me ages to make due to reshaping.  Never mind at least I'll know next time.

Orange and poppy seed cake - a real winner!

Orange and poppy seed cake - vanilla paste, freshly grated orange, freshly squeezed orange juice and a good shake of poppy seeds - absolutely delicious. My kitchens smells lovely and the cake tastes even better!

Mothering Sunday!!

My slightly quiter week has just become a whole lot busier with an order from The Bowl Inn Amondsbury to supply cupcakes as a complimentary gift for all mummys dining in the restaurant this Sunday (get your table booked quick).  I am already preparing flowers for a Mother's Day cake for one client and it is also my own mummy's birthday on Sunday.  On top of that I have on order for a batch of balloon cookies for a 2 year olds party. So all in all it's busy, busy, busy!!!

I am forever researching new ideas  and techniques, quite often to late at night and one top tip that I found recently was to use a cardboard insert from an apple box to put my larger flower petals in while they are drying.  It works wonders, but I think  Asda were a little confused yesterday when I was wheeling this piece of cardboard around in my trolley!

Happy Birthday Kerry Hayfield - 21 Today!!

My fifth and final offering for this week is a giant cupcake with cupcakes combination for my daughter's best friend Kerry Hayfield.  Verity wanted the old fashioned cupcake look with a cherry and sprinkles and this is what I came up with.  Enjoy your evening girls and don't be too naughty!!!!

A cake for an avid Top Gear fan!

This is my penultimate cake for this week, and was designed for a gentleman celebrating his 50th birthday who just happens to be a huge fan of Top Gear!

A flower filled chamber pot for a lady who's nuts about flowers!

It's time to reveal cake no3, a design based on an old fashion chamber pot (clean I can assure you) full of spring flowers.  When ever I am lucky enough to receive some flowers I always like to show them off in something equally as pretty, usually an old milk jug or  something along those lines.

Let's Hope This One Is A Roaring Success!

I can now reveal the second of this weeks cakes.  It's for a little boy named Alfie who is going to be 2 this weekend and requested a lion.  My lion is based on Alakay the lion from the film Madagascar.  Alfie's mum Sam came upon Yummy Mummy's Cakes when she drove past the end of my drive and saw my new sign!

A Very Last Minute Christening Cake!

I was asked to re ice a top tier wedding cake for a customer who had kept it safely for eight years.   Unfortunately things weren't quite as they should be underneath the icing and marzipan so it was time for plan B.  Instead I made her a vanilla sponge with buttercream, jam, marzipan and fondant icing and topped it off with a rather beautiful baby blue bootee.  This is the result!

2011 Red Nose Day Cupcakes

Nearly finished!

Wow, it's been a taxing week this week.  My two youngest still aren't back to school but they are outside at the moment enjoying the glorious sunshine so hopefully Gracie will sleep in her own bed tonight after some fresh air?  I am really pleased with the cakes that I have made so far this week and all that's left to do now is to decorate the Red Nose Day cakes that are rising nicely in the oven.  They need to be delivered to  LV tomorrow morning and then I have got  the rest of the day off (yippee!!!)

I have  got a  manic week next week and everything needs to run like clockwork.  On the plus side once again the cakes are all completely diverse so more lovely pictures to upload here!

Have a  lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine, you never know how long it's going to be around for in this country. x

Not so easy making cakes for a living when the sun is shining so brightly!

I have just put two chocolate truffle cakes in the oven and now I am sat at my desk in the blazing sunshine, and all I want to do is get outside and do some gardening.  It isn't going to happen though, my little girl Gracie is really poorly and is now on 6 months of antibiotics for her constant ear infections and the cakes aren't going to decorate themselves!  Never mind, not long now and we can start going back down to my mum's caravan near Sidmouth.

This week I have got two large cakes on and a batch of Red Nose Day cakes for staff at LV.  I have also started work on some flowers for a cake that I am making next week for a lady who absolutely loves flowers.

Enjoy your week and look out for the pics at the end of the week x

The End Of A Very Busy Week!

I have just finished my second cake for this week and I absolutely love it.  Let's hope the recipitent feels the same way tomorrow!

My son Ben has just arrived home and has spent the last half hour trying to assemble a cake transportation box to get his Chapd Club cake back up to London on the Train. Rather him than me.

Babies Everywhere!

Yesterday I spent the day with my daughter and her friend Kerry at The Bristol Baby and Toddler Show.  It was an amazing event with lots and lots of visitors, some with bumps and some with babies (very tiny babies).  My cakes were a huge success and I hope that some of the lovely people I had an opportunity to speak with remember me when they are planning their christenings and birthdays!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped me on the build up to the show (I admit to being very stressy, mainly due to tireness) especially to mum who helped with school runs, Pauline who vanished Gracie off to Birmingham for the day and to Verity and Kerry for all their help and banter on the day. (Verity I love the video on Facebook).  Lastly thank you to John and the girls for all their help at home yesterday and for visiting my nan in hospital.  Love you all!
