Flying Saucer Cake and Matching Cupcakes

This cake has been a feat of engineering.  To get the top tier to stand on the top took a while and in the end I came up with the idea of banking up the rods to add extra support. 

The cake is for a young man named Oliver who is the grandson of a lady named Hilary who keeps a horse at our livery yard.  When ever we go away tomy mum's caravan Hilary steps in to let my chickens and ducks out for me, and I wanted to make sure that the cake was special.

Butterflies No 1 first Birthday Cake

 

I have quite literally just photographed this cake! This morning, however I was still trying to decide how I was going to decorate it. Then just by chance the postman delivered my pile of post and amongst it were some rather lovely rice paper butterflies that I had ordered from a new supplier. I obviously couldn’t just add them in their naked state, so I decided upon embellishing them with tiny gold dragee.

I am so pleased with the finished cake, and also rather relieved, as the customer was very particular over how she wanted it to look!

I am so excited that I just had to share this little bit of information with you! Yesterday I registered with Cakesdecor.com, an online site for sharing everything cake. It is full of wonderful ideas, interesting discussions, tutorials and most importantly everyone's cakes. Not quite sure how they rate their top 3 but I have just received an email informing me that my washing line baby shower cake has made it to no3 with my love birds at no7 and my golden wedding anniversary at no 11! Happy days

Ranunculus Ruffle Cake

I have had a fairly quiet week this week with only the one cake, but it is exactly the sort of cake that I love to work on!  Very girly, flowery and feminine.

The cake is for the daughter of a good friend of mine and my only directives were pinks and creams, so pretty much a free rein.

I decided I would like to have an attempt at a ruffle cake and also a ranunculus flower and this is the finished result:-

Hibiscus Birthday Cake and Cupcakes

This morning at 1.30am I arrived home with my family from 11 absolutely amazing days of sunshine and laughter in Egypt.  We originally thought we were returning Thursday and I thought that I had a cake going out Saturday.  How wrong I was!  The cake was due out today.

At 2.30 this morning after  cleaning my kitchen I dropped into bed and by 4.30 this afternoon I was putting the final touches to the cake and matching cupcakes.  Thank goodness I had made the flowers and chocolate cake prior to going away!
