21st birthday gerbera giant cupcake

This week has been a little chaotic, one daughter off with a burst eardrum and the other sat in Southmead hospital as we speak with a suspected broken arm!  Hey ho, I sure these little incidents are only sent to people that can deal with them!!

I was supposed to have two cakes on this week but 1 backed out, so lucky Emily has had my full attention on her cake and hope she is pleased with the result?

Golden Wedding Anniversay Cupcakes

Sometimes making cakes for a living can be extremely demoralising.  People continually expect to get the fantastic cakes and pay off the shelf prices for them.  They badger you for ideas and a price and then when you give them a price you here no more from them, not even an "I'm sorry, but that is beyond our budget!".  More recently I recieved an email asking, and I quote "how can we go about getting a wonderful cake at low cost?"  My answer should have been take a trip to M&S and buy one of the shelf!

This week, however has been the complete reverse.  I have dealt with some of the nicest, considerate and appreciative people that I could have wished to meet.

Kerry Hayfield,  the Ferris family and Mary,  thank you so much for making it all seem worth while.  I hope that all of you enjoy your celebrations this weekend and look forward to working with you again on your next special occasion!

vintage rose tea cup cake

This cake is for the mum of  a lovely young lady named kerry who has bought several cakes from me.  She wanted someting special for her mum's 50th birthday, and I thought that this was just perfect!

The cake is a lemon sponge soaked in lemon syrup and covered in ivory fondant.  The tea cup is totally edible and based on one of my own favourites from Bombay Duck.

Four tier birthday present cake!

This is my biggy for this week.  I was asked to make a cake that could feed 90 guests and also incorporate 4 different birthday celebrations and different genders.  The only possible solution was a stacked cake and presents seemed the obvious choice.

The bottom tier is a vanilla sponge sandwiched with raspberry jam and vanilla buttercream.  The next is chocolate truffle sandwiched with chocolate ganache buttercream and covered in chocolate flavour fondant.  the third is lemon sponge soaked with a lemon syrup and sandwiched with a lemon curd buttercream.  And finally, the top tier is another vanilla sponge.

I tried to use several different techniques when adding detail to the covered cakes to add more interest.

The bottom tier is embossed with a filigree pattern.  The second tier has a royal icing stencilled pattern.  The third tier is covered in a hand made edible lace and the top tier is just covered in a beautiful peach glitter.

The most difficult part of the whole process was working out which size cake would fit transposed on the cake below and that's when I had to go back to school and try to remember my Pythagoras!

Thank goodness my maths was correct and this is the resulting cake:-

The Whole Ensemble

I have managed to complete each of the tasks I set myself this morning, including decorating cupcakes, inserting the roses into the cake blocks and making 24 butterscotch flavour cake pops.

Floral blocked 3 tier wedding cake

This is the last cake that I have prepared for the up and coming wedding fair.  I have never worked with fresh flowers before and it is difficult to know how long they will last and how much they will open up.

I had to prepare the cake today as I won't have enough time inn the morning to take pictures.

Wedding Fair Preparations

I didn't have much get up and go in me Monday morning after such a busy week before, but I was very aware that I had absolutely nothing prepared for the forth coming wedding fair at Thornbury Golf Club on the 11th of this month.  My first task was to prepare the fruit for a fruit cake to cut up on the day.  I am extremely proud of my fruit cakes and I never cut corners in preparing them.  Fresh orange and lemon rind plus their juices and a good slosh of brandy mixed together with currants, raisins, sultanas, prunes, dates, apricots and cherries are all chopped and mixed together to allow their wonderful flavours to infuse.

The next job on the list was the first of two wedding cakes.  Ideally I would have liked to have made 4 or 5 different cakes, but I had several other commitments this week including my birthday and my daughter's fabulous relay race at Tockington Manor.

This is the first cake that I put together:-

Little Charley Bear christening cake

My final cake for this week is a two tier christening cake for a young man named Charlie who is being christened this Sunday.  I do hope you all have a fabulous day.  I will be busy, beavering away preparing exhibits for the wedding fair at Thornbury Golf Club while your tucking in to your cake!

What a busy week!!

I haven't posted  anything for quite a long time because I have been working on rather a big wedding which is going out this morning.  There have been times when I have to admit, why have I taken so much on.   But with a lot of grit and determination I have got it all done and the pictures are taken.

I have been working with the mother of the bride, Tracie, who has been a wonderful person to collaborate with and I am so looking forward to her seeing  the finished results.   Tracie lost her mum just before Christmas and hopefully today will put a big smile back on her face.  She has worked so hard to make sure that every detail of today's proceedings will be absolutely perfect for her daughter Jemma and son-in-law to  be Nick.

I hope that all of you have a beautiful day and that the sun shines for you.

On another note, I have been asked by Veronica of  Thornbury Golf Club if I would like to exhibit my cakes at the golf club on Sunday march 11th between 11am and 3pm.  If you are getting married in the next year or so this could be an ideal opportunity to take a look at all the services exhibiting on the day!
